Let me answer your technical questions first. The hymen is a thin membrane that is stretched across the upper part of the vagina. It can be broken or torn with vigorous exercise or activity. Although in ancient times a broken hymen was thought to be an indicator of loss of virginity, it is no longer a measure of virginity because we know now that it can and is often broken in other activities (like vollyball). Virginity is the term we use for the state of one who has not had sexual intercourse. The bleeding that is associated with first time sex is most likely due to the tearing of the hymen. Not everyone whose hymen is intact at the time of first intercourse bleeds. Stretching and lubrication influence this. However, rough thrusting or lack of adequate lubrication can also cause minor tears in the vaginal wall and bleeding could result from that even when the hymen is already broken. So yes you are still a virgin. Until the penis has entered the vaginayou are still a virgin.
